Michelle and I just returned from another trip to Walt Disney World. You might say that we are slightly obsessed with all things Disney, we even went on a Disney Cruise Land and Sea vacation for our Honeymoon several years ago...and have found ourselves on multiple Disney vacations since then.
I don't know exactly what it is about Walt Disney World that draws us to them, or has led us to the point of creating a modern Mickey Mouse motif in our home. It could be found partly in the great accomplishments of Walt Disney, a man with vision, passion, and drive. It could be found partly in the exemplary service you receive on a Disney vacation. It could be found in the atmosphere and ambience that accompany the empire that Walt built. It may just be found in the return to childlike innocence you feel when you are on a Disney vacation.
Whatever it is, we are undeniably drawn to Walt Disney World. Their employees are trained in all things Disney, and they create the world that is what it is. Remember, all that Disney is, was formed in Walt's mind, and it was up to those that he recruited to create what exists today.
I wonder, if in our daily pursuit of life, we also exhume that same enthusiasm for Christ that draws people to him? In reality, if Walt's employees were just there to gain a paycheck in the beginning, the organization would not have been able to rise to the heights it is today. They could call themselves employees, but that means nothing without the passion to excel.
We are called, with our lives, to live with that passion for Christ that draws people to him. Our label is nothing without our passion for him.
Matthew 5 delivers a great directive to this regard:
13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Our lives should be that beacon that draws people to Christ. Not as a 'responsibility', but because we are so excited and passionate about what he has done for us that it undeniably shows in our lifestyle. We are the salt, and the light of what Jesus Christ hopes to accomplish in this world. It is up to us to choose to just wear the tag, or let our lives be the salt and light to others around us. Our passion is contagious...
